What Is Complex Care?

Complex care isn't a diagnosis. It describes a situation where needs interact — for example, a physical disability alongside a health condition, communication differences or a recent hospital stay — so support has to be carefully planned around the person, their routines and their goals.

Qualified, Trained Staff for Complex Care

Our team includes highly qualified, trained staff — including Assistants in Nursing (AINs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) — alongside support workers trained in the specific tasks complex care involves.

Every worker's qualifications and training are checked, then matched to the tasks in the person's care plan. We aim for a small, consistent team so the details that matter are learned and kept. We work with self-managed, plan-managed and agency-managed NDIS participants — see our high-intensity support page for specific tasks.

Complex care is support for people whose health, disability or daily needs call for more skill, consistency or coordination than everyday assistance. It can involve specific health-related tasks, high physical support, behaviour support or several professionals working together — arranged so the person can keep living at home.

There is no single definition. Needs are usually described as complex when several things interact — for example a disability alongside a health condition, communication needs, changing behaviour or a recent hospital stay — so support has to be carefully planned and consistent.

No. Some tasks need specific training, experience or qualifications, and some should only be delivered under the direction of a health professional. We match workers to the person's individual requirements and are upfront when a requirement is outside what we can arrange.

The NDIS may fund supports for complex needs where they are considered reasonable and necessary and included in a participant's plan. Support Network does not assess or approve funding — your NDIA planner, LAC or Support Coordinator can help with that.

Complex care describes the overall situation — several needs interacting. High-intensity support is an NDIS term for specific daily activities that need a higher level of skill. Many people need both. See our high-intensity support page for more detail.

Yes. Complex care usually involves several people. Workers follow the care plans and guidance provided by the person's health and allied health team.

It depends on the location, the skills required and the hours needed. We will tell you honestly what looks realistic after we understand the requirements — we don't promise availability we can't confirm.
